The Business Energy SavingsCentral program is for non-residential customers of Central Hudson with average monthly electric demand of less than 350 kilowatts. This includes business offices, retail stores, manufacturing facilities, local governments, non-profits, private and public institutions, and healthcare facilities.

The program offers an energy assessment, a report detailing where efficiency measures can produce the most savings, the cost and payback period for the upgrade, and rebates up to 70 percent of the equipment cost of the upgrade. Eligible measures may include:

  • Lighting measures involving several different fixture types, including pin-base CFL lamps, LED exit signs and refrigerator case lighting, 4-foot and 8-foot T8 and T5 lamps, T8 relamp / reballast, super T-8 fixtures, high-bay fluorescent fixtures, pulse-start metal halides (indoor/outdoor), occupancy sensing (wall-mount and ceiling-mount) and daylight-dimming controls
  • Combination of high efficiency central air conditioning and air source heat pump units
  • Ground source heat pump units and heat pump water heaters
  • A variety of motors, motor controls (such as variable speed drives), and refrigeration
  • Other custom measures

Click here for the breakdown of rebates for each type of equipment.

The program works in one additional way: You may also opt for a lighting-only energy efficiency upgrade by directly contacting a Trade Ally specializing in lighting installations and retrofits. Click here for a list of commercial lighting Trade Allies. The rebate levels are the same for customers using this method.

The Business Energy SavingsCentral program will rebate approximately 70 percent of the equipment cost of each energy efficiency upgrade. A Central Hudson representative will inspect the project based on the quality assurance plan at completion to verify that the upgrade matches the performance specified in the auditor’s proposal.

Federal tax deductions for businesses
Businesses can take a tax deduction for new or renovated buildings by reducing the energy costs associated with three components: lighting systems; building envelope; and heating, cooling and water heating equipment. Buildings must meet the ASHRAE 90.1-2001 standard and be placed in service between Jan. 1, 2006 and Dec. 31, 2013 to be eligible. For details on this federal tax deduction, visit this Web site or download this flyer (PDF).
