Residential Natural
Gas Rebate Form

Federal tax credits
for energy efficiency

Snuggle up this winter with energy-saving heating equipment

Now is the time to upgrade the heating system in your home. Central Hudson is offering rebates of up to $1,000 for installing energy-efficient equipment such as natural gas furnaces and boilers. The more efficient the equipment, the higher your rebate from Central Hudson. Rebate levels are listed on page two of the residential natural gas rebate form. You may also be eligible for a federal tax credit of up to $1,500 (see below).

How can I take advantage of this program?
You must use a SavingsCentral participating Trade Ally. Click here to find contact information for residential Trade Allies and get quotes for the installation of energy efficient equipment. Then follow these steps:

  • Choose your Trade Ally to install your new energy efficient equipment
  • Get a rebate form from the Trade Ally or download one here
  • Fill out the front of the rebate form and let the Trade Ally fill in the technical information on the back
  • Allow four to six weeks to receive your rebate check in the mail. It's as easy as that!

What is the federal tax credit for energy efficiency?
A credit for energy efficient products placed in service in 2009. Energy efficient natural gas furnaces and boilers can qualify for a tax credit. For natural gas furnaces, the annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) must be 95 percent or greater. You will need to file the 2009 IRS Form 5695 and submit it with your 2009 taxes by April 15, 2010.  The credit is 30 percent of the cost (including installation and labor), up to a maximum of $1,500. The tax credit is in effect in 2009 and 2010. The product must be installed in your principal residence between Jan. 1, 2009 and Dec. 31, 2010. More information is listed here.

Can I use the federal tax credit and also get the SavingsCentral rebate?
Yes. When you add the federal tax credit to the SavingsCentral rebate, you can significantly reduce how much you spend on your new energy efficient equipment. Your new heating system will also lower your Central Hudson bill each winter for years to come.

What if I don't have natural gas where I live?
No matter what type of heating source you use for your home, its efficiency will be compromised by leaks around windows, doors, ducts and pipes. Leaks can account for as much as 30 percent of a home's annual heating cost. Central Hudson is offering rebates for professional duct and air sealing after blower door testing and duct blasting. This work must be done by a SavingsCentral Trade Ally certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI).

How can I find a Trade Ally to do duct and air sealing at my home?
Use this listing to select a BPI-certified contractor to professionally seal air leaks in your home:
